As we close out this solemn day ... a couple of things to ponder as America stands closer to the brink ...
The first thing is this ... I find it impossible to wrap my brain around the fact that Ground Zero of America's suffering of an evil attack straight from the pit of Hell -- New York City -- Today has an Islamic Socialist mayor.
The second is that a once honorable Democratic party seems to be taken over by socialist extremists bent on not only destroying the American Constitution -- the most brilliant and God-inspired statement of Man's reason ever devised by imperfect men -- but also in destroying the very cherished ideals of the American way of life -- a way of life that has enabled us to be the most benevolent, sacrificial nation in the world's history. We are not perfect by any means, but it has been America (mostly ... not forgetting our Italian allies in Beirut or our Aussie and Brit allies in GWOT) who, over the course of human history, has sacrificed its sons to keep other peoples free.
Socialism and Radical Islam are antithetical to the Freedoms that America, and the American experience, have been built upon. To believe otherwise is to be ignorant of History.
In the days and years following those horrid events of 9/11, Americans put aside our petty political differences (Liberal versus conservative -- one keeps the other honest. Far right and far left ... i.e., Fascism/Socialism is evil and self-destructive as History has proven) to stand together for what truly defines us -- that we are endowed by our Creator with an inalienable right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The *pursuit* is a right, the *attainment* of any of that is up to us. Anyone who tells you different is lying to you.
The words of Ben Franklin resonate still. After the Constitutional Convention, he was asked what kind of government had been created.
“A republic, if you can keep it,” he replied. Meaning that a republic only works if the people actively maintain and defend it.
My hope is that on this 25th anniversary of that awful morning when America was attacked by those who hate the very things that define us as a God-fearing, benevolent and free nation,there is still a vast majority of us who are still willing to put aside our petty differences to rise to Franklin's challenge.
My hope rests in that there is still within America a vast majority of Americans, however silent they may be, who still believe in that fundamental foundation laid by the founding fathers. That no matter how vocal and violent the radical element may be on this 25th anniversary of 9-11, we will still stand for the hard and narrow path of Truth and Light ... That we must rise above our National ease, contentment and apathy to still vigorously defend that which we have largely come to take for granted -- that we are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
