My almost 16 year old granddaughter and I talked on the way home from school today on how we will remember and honor the events and loss from 9/11 tomorrow. She has a much better grasp on what happened and how it affected our country then and now. She said she asked her teacher today if there was a plan to pause and reflect and honor those lost. The response was basically that there wasn't a planned observance. She said she told her teacher they should make an effort to remember and honor not only those lost that day, but in the days, months and years since. The teacher agreed and has set aside time for remembrance and discussion to help those that didn't live through it understand and hopefully grasp the immensity of what happened.
I thanked her for making the effort to carry on with something she only knows through exposure and the sharing of what happened as it is so important that these things be remembered and honored.
My day will start with the raising of our colors and a salute to our flag. Then another salute to all those we've lost and a prayer in my heart throughout the day for those left to carry on.
