The service manual says you need to remove the rear run channel and the guide that's held to the door with a screw near the bottom in order to remove the latch assembly. This would be for a 47-51, but the 1952 (pushbutton door handles) supplement to the shop manual says the same thing. I haven't tried without the run channel out, but it MAY be possible to get the latch assembly our without removing it.
