texczech - I'm gonna suggest your last character on the end of the engine serial number sequence is a "Z" and not a "7". A little extra cleaning on the pad should confirm what it is. As noted in the below extracts from the GM Heritage files, the first numerals "0269382 is the sequential unit number, the "F" indicates it was built at the Flint plant, "54" indicates the model year and the last character(s) after the 54 indicate what the engine was originally installed in.
A "Z" 1954 235 would have been a passenger car "Regular" 235 installed with a 3 speed manual transmission (if it had been equipped with a Powerglide automatic transmission it would have ended in "Y"). The engine should have a solid lifter cam too.
