1954 235, while heating up the block around the lifter base, to get lifters out of a frozen engine, I got all lifters out but the last one in the back near the firewall. While gently tapping up on the head of the lifter, (like the others) the cap came off. I was about 1/4" out of the bore. I tried getting vise grips on the shell with heat again, but to no avail. The camshaft won't slide out because it is hitting the cam journal at the back. Not high enough to clear. Any suggestions from anyone on how or maybe a tool to pull that out? I'm really trying to save this motor.
