the Curie temperatures of iron, cobalt an nickel are, respectively: 1480, 2060, 669 degrees Fahrenheit. If your distributor sees that kind of temperature while under the hood of a Stovebolt, there are other issues in play which have already likely caused the vehicle to stop running.

Install the Pertronix, keep the points in your glovebox just in case. The last one I installed, on a 1960 Buick Invicta, used the distributor lobes as its reference. That was in 2004, it still works.
