I still remember a machine shop class in high school the teacher stressed to make sure the chuck was out of the lathe before turning it on .I guess the memory stuck with me after another student turned the lathe on with the chuck in and was very lucky he only got it graze his forehead and not in the eye .They should have had the spring loaded ones for the class .
