There is a franchise called Gas Tank Renu. There are independent owners scattered about the country. I used them to restore my gas tank in my Diamond T. Go to their website and find someone near you. I had to ship my tank to California.

The process is that they punch holes in the tank to allow media blasting of the entire interior by direct vision. This is very important with tanks that have baffles. Then they braise plugs to fill the holes. Some sort of plastic liner is applied to the inside and outside, and then bonded to the tank using heat. They can repair a tank that is honeycombled with holes. You get your tank back and it feels like it is plastic or nalgene on the outside. I did this after boiling out my tank but the outlet still filled with rust. I used Gas Tank Renu 20 years ago and have not had a speck of rust in the gas filter since.

At the time it was more expensive than a new tank (although for the Diamond T there was no such thing). Shipping today will be expensive. This is going to be expensive but it is a possible solution.
