Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,836 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,836 | I've been in the process of scavenging parts and pieces from a 1954/55 235 engine that had a catastrophic failure of the water jacket- - - -totally unsalvageable, and ended up with a very good condition crankshaft- - - -standard diameter, even. It's headed for the local machine shop I've been doing business with for 40+ years to have the stroke changed and the rod journal diameter altered to run big block Chevy H-beam connecting rods. With .040 oversize pistons for a Ford 292 V8 and a 4" stroke crankshaft, I'll end up with 274 cubic inches from a 261 block I've had stashed away for a while. I've also got a pretty heavily milled 848 cylinder head that should bring the compression up to about 9:1. With the Melling CCS-1 version of the 261 camshaft and a little valve work and pocket porting of the head, it should be a pretty good performer. Jerry
