Did you set the initial timing with the vacuum hose to the distributor disconnected and plugged? Is the vacuum hose connected to manifold vacuum or ported vacuum?
Holley's instructions say to use ported vacuum but that is not always the correct choice.
Your carb has has backfire protection to save the power valve. That's nice to have.
