Still working on my Carter BB-1 carburetor article and have one carburetor with a bunch of confusion:
Carter BB-1 number 2987s is listed in the Carter index as being used on a 1959 and 1960 Chevrolet truck. I have never found a data sheet, nor a print in my Carter stuff, and the Carter index does not specify if the 2987s went into production or was cancelled.
That most reliable of all sources ;), the internet, gives me information that the Dubl-Duti production ceased in 1955; BUT a new Dubl-Duti serious began in 1956, ending in 1962.
The internet also states that the "Thriftmaster" engine in the new Dubi-Duti was a 235 with a Rochester type B; BUT an engine known as the "Thriftmaster Special" was also a 235 that retained the updraft carburetor on forward control models.
The Chevrolet Master Parts book states that Carter 871SC was used through the 1962 model year on the 235 forward control trucks.
The newest Carter parts list I have on the 871SC was printed in December of 1956, and stated the 871SC was used at least through 1957.
So does anyone know with positive proof:
Was the 2987s ever produced? Cancelled? Anyone have one???
Or was the 871SC used through 1962?
