I have a horrible leak on my '53 235 full pressure crank seal in the timing cover. I'll bet that slinger would reduce how much oil I am losing.
One good thing about having that leak is that it means that the spray nozzle which lubes the timing gears is working well.
Maybe it is an aftermarket part.
