The GM HEI pickup coils are available at any corner parts store, and they can be adapted to a stock stovebolt distributor with a lathe and the average machining skills learned in a high school machine shop.

I have never actually seen a school that had one, though I am old enough to remember people talking about them going away.
Maybe that is why I have 3 lathes and two mills in my garage...
