I might have identified why so many people go with a LS or with a automatic.
I am very pleased with my 383 5speed combo except for jerkiness when rpms get to 1500 and below to 1000. It bucks and jerks. I assume this is due to the more radical cam. I also assume this is why most people go with autos so the converter can act like a shock absorber with the bucking?
I am getting a little pinging so I need to back a little timing off which may help a little, but I doubt it.
