On my F**d, there was some play in where I installed the cancel cam and that affected where "zero" was for the turn signal stalk. I initially put it in off to one side and had n issue where the stalk would fall down and turn the signal on when I went over bumps.

Maybe there is something similar in yours? I would probably check the FAM/Service Manual.
