Buy a 12V horn from 55.2 or up chevy truck and mount it up front on radiator or crossmember structure....or on the filter bracket.... or modify horn or original bracket to make them mate. You are correct in your thinking. A horn has one hot wire and a method to ground it's body. With a wire or by bolting it to chassis.
YOU CAN use a 6V horn on 12V.
