The threads I see are 1/2-18 UNEF. Not NPT. The word tapered is not used on the 53-811 senders I see.... or in the thread designation of a 1/2-18 UNEF. I believe that is a parallel thread.
By the way Van, there is a 53-811A sender. I find no difference in your case. It would be impossible not to get good ground when using permatex, threads have to touch. Teflon is, as said several times, not recommended.
Install dry if you wish and see if no leaks.
I have a feeling you will need an adapter bushing but I don't know what the Edelbrock thread is.
