I imagine you would, Bill...or at least you might. I looked this morning and the lowest rated high/low I found uses 6 amps. However, it might be on intermittent use that converter would be fine. It has no heat sink so I'm thinking for safety's sake it probably is rated for 4 amps continuous but 6 amps intermittent might not be a problem.

Some of the current voltage handlers are very interesting...as are all the changes in micro-electronic design. The one in the FM/MP3/Bluetooth unit I'm using for the AD radio project will take voltage as low as 5.6v dc and as high as 15v dc and with no heat output convert it up or trim it back to 12v dc. Then using power not exceeding 3 amps (maybe less...not always easy to interpret their data) will amplify sound...either through twin 25 watt channels or twin 40 watt channels...either one being plenty loud enough. I've been using 8 ohm speakers just fine.

Only one of the modules uses a heat sink and that sink is small...maybe 3/4 inch square and 3mm high. I haven't been able to make that unit generate any noticeable heat at all, though. It was designed by a different team in China, however the operation of it is the same as the others and the sound quality of all of them is very good. Very surprising stuff for an old guy.
