Well a bell housing has been found from a car or 1/2 ton pickup that has the SM420 bolt pattern and larger 4 11/16 centre hole and square bolted side bell housing mounts like the 40 military.....but ..... it was attached to a 3 speed tranny with side sifting for a 3 on the tree......and meant to be used with the enclosed driveshaft....... tranny case is all one piece from ears to bolt on the bell housing to the flange for the tube U-joint.....
........ and when you flip it over....... the inside of the bell housing has a bulge on the right hand side that can be drilled for the 7/16 fulcrum bolt....and has the outline in the casting of the RH clutch window sealed with a wooden plug........ only thing left to do is drill 4 holes and make a right hand window for the fork....... have not seen more than pictures and measurements and is currently in transit....... so the original GM casting could have been be used for export.....
who would have figured ......will have pictures and casting number shortly....... what it came off from is only a verbal story..... the web can be wonderful sometimes...
Bob C.
PS..... confirmed the 3 speed tranny was from and only from a truck..... huge 3 speed ....side loader with the large center hole and SM420 bolt pattern....so 48 to 52 truck BH will fit a Canadian CMP truck.
