I would recommend a primer or primer-sealer between the current coating and whatever you choose for the finish coating. Stay with the same brand and line, if you are shooting PPG single stage then use the primer that is recommended for that paint. Whatever brand and type of paint you choose, use that manufacturers primer and recommended steps.
