Found my answer........ not the one I wanted but a proven solution.
Along the way I tagged Pre-Dave as an adapter plate for the H2O pump will be needed and always helpful as usual..
The problem arose when a rolling chassis with a running 54 235 with a SM420 surfaced and was considered for transplanting into a right hand drive Canadian CMP...with the clutch system on the right side of the bell housing.
.......the solution is to keep the existing 54 bell housing and to cut out a window in the right hand side and transfer everything over to the right side....... measure carefully, pre drill the four corners of the new window location then open up with a small 2 inch air driven cut off saw. Now it takes ....big family jewels.... to cut up a cast iron bell housing and not crack it all up..... and you should use a drill press to properly drill a new hole and thread it for the fulcrum ball that holds the fork........ one of the two perpetrators is now 82 and still driving his truck although currently floored with Covid and the other in N.H. is recovering from back surgery....but their conversions live on.... The rest is just bolting things back together.
I have a 1959 Chev bell housing, if I can find it in the barn..... that was once bolted to my 261....and if I can find it I may try my luck....no point having a SM 420 sitting on the floor of the garage.....
