"Cranking" is the is the action of the starting motor turning the flywheel, which spins the crankshaft. "Starting" is the fuel burning and making the engine run after the starter is disengaged. Troubleshooting a failure to crank is entirely different from correcting a failure to start and run. Can you be a little more specific about what the problem is? Certain situations like a low battery can cause both problems.
