After installing new bushings in the cab mount shackles. What procedure would you take to find the resting place for a 54 cab? I wondered about the .76 clearance after reading an adjacent article. Just curious. Without the gas tank and seating I could add weight to the cab but the question still remains.
Here is how I do it.
Put a piece of 1"X4" between the floor and the frame near each shackle. You don't need the shackle assembled at this point. (A 1"X4" is .75")
This will level the rear of the cab and put it real close to where it will ultimately end up.
Move to the front cab mounts. Make sure the cab mount supports are not rusted out and collapsed. Shim the front of the cab to the proper distance between the cab and the frame.
Go back to the rear of the cab and bolt the shackles on and shim to specs.
The reason I do in this manner is that it your front mounts are out of whack, this will make it impossible to set the rear shackle as they are designed to move around a lot.
