Most hardware stores will have steel cable in various diameters as well as thimbles that can be crimped on to form a loop end or a stopper. I usually use the cutter portion of my vice grip pliers to crimp them on. A couple bites (not all the way through of course) usually does the trick nicely. Just a suggestion if you can't find an original replacement.
