After a recent trip up a long steep climb I found my 261 cutting out and assumed it was due to the gas boiling as my engine was at around the 210 degree point and was seeing bubbles in both my mechanical gas pump with a glass covered strainer and an after market glass bowled gas filter with a paper element fastened to the Carb.
After more issues later on I removed both the screen on the pump and the paper filter even though they both looked clean as did the bowls.
I blew out the screen and replaced the element the went on my way without issue.
This morning I checked the the element which looked clean to my eye but when cut open the folds were packed with black sediment which I assume is the inside of my 4 ft. Section of rubber gas line possibly due to methanol in the gas.
I wish I would have clued into this while still on the hill as I carry spare elements with me.
