I’ll second Carl’s suggestions. Over the course of a year I pretty much completed everything on his list. One thing in addition was to remove the front springs, take them apart, clean each leaf on a wire wheel and install a liner between the leaves.

The result of the above is a 3/4 ton ‘51 truck that rides and drives great. Understand, it’s not a new “today “ truck but it’s much better than its likely been since it had that 1st few thousand miles under its belt 72 years ago.
