What do you mean by "highway speeds"?. I have a '41 3/4 ton with the factory 4.56 rear gear. I swapped in a T-5 transmission with overdrive 5th and regularly do 55-60 on the highway with no problem. I don't drive on the interstate. Probably easier to swap the transmission than the rear.
