Vacuum advance doesn't do anything during acceleration, so the distributor probably isn't the problem- - - -unless it happens to be a Pertronix. Then it's definitely the problem. Find the vacuum leak(s) and fix them before trying to tinker with the ignition system. Choking is compensating for excess air getting into the engine without getting any fuel mixed with it. I use an unlit Propane torch to look for air leaks- - - - -intake manifold gaskets, carb base gasket, even a bad windshield wiper hose or motor can cause a lean stumble.
