Thanks Tim. I hadn't given any thought to the actual return spring and linkage since they are not installed as of yet. I got out my Assembly manual and looked up the diagram you posted, and then I remembered how tough it was to get that spring off the return rod due to it's strength.
Dumb me, I also didn't even consider that the cable can be forced back also. BTW, all the parts are new, including the cables.
I'm getting close to having an actual rolling chassis (minus the engine and tranny).
