What I have done in the past is get the balancer all lined up on the crank, start the bolt in the crank and just tighten things up snugly. Then take a hammer, wrench or what ever and just tap the balancer and the torque of the bolt and the shock of the tap on the balancer will pull the balancer on the crank. Continue this until the balancer is seated. No stain on you trying to pull the balancer on and no risk of a broken bolt. The bolt and the tap on the balancer do all of the work.
