The stock head was a 3836850 and more than likely it developed a crack.
Back in the day it was a lot cheaper to find a replacement from a junkyard rather than repair the original.
I think the consensus is that the extra cooling holes are only necessary when you want your truck to do heavy duty hauling.
The engine has the early version PCV system. I would ask for the original oil bath air cleaner since it is has the connection to the valve cover.
