no Stuart, yer about right - the 'I' terminal puts full batt voltage to the coil while the starter is engaged, foot stomp or key

the reason[s] you seldom see the firewall mounted ign resistor KK, is that they didn't have'em in the 6 volt years, and after the 60's they had internally resisted coils so could put full 12V to the coil alla time - they were only used about 6-8 years
