I got it fixed. they were powering the tach off off the + side of the dist instead of the battery. Anyway, I rewired all that like it is supposed to be.
Now the tach works and it starts after a hot soak.
No external resistor on the firewall. So I am still thinking there should be 2 wires to the + side, cause the yellow wire is 12 volts. Unless that model used an internal resistor coil. Anyway, I have a good blue spark now.
