Burgie,

My old rig is a 55/1st 4400 with a 12' flatbed. Soon after I purchased it I pulled the 235, bought a 350 and did a "test fit". It looked like there was no way the steering box could remain where it was, special headers or not! I tried to visualize what type of box I could put in and where it could go...then I came to my senses and scrapped the V-8 idea and went back to the old 6 banger.

I looked through your "disassembly" photos last night and lo and behold, the steering box on your old yellow dump truck is the one I visualized as a swap on my old truck...WOW. It sits ahead of the axle and the drag link goes BACK to the steering arm. This moves it out of the engine area. I will stick with my stock engine, but for others contemplating this swap, your vintage steering setup might be a option.

Stuart.
