Well I'm embarrassed to say I found the problem with the shocks, it was ME !!!
When I removed them the top loop came off with the steel bushing still in the shock , but the bottom loop the bushing remined on the bolt so therefor made it
look bigger . It took a fair bit of heat and a chisel and hammer to get the bushing off but now an appropriate shock will be easier to find with both ends being 3/4 in.
Ah to live and learn .
