Timing will affect all the cylinders, not just one. A sticky valve or a broken intake valve spring is also a possibility. Once you find which cylinder is missing, pull the valve cover and inspect the springs. That's also a good time to do a valve adjustment.

Exhaust cam lobe that is worn down will make it pop back thru carb as well.
