Would a Riv-Nut work in this situation? I have a small window cab and will be doing this before long so I'm interested in what you come up with.
NO, a Riv-nut would just pull out in a crash, there's not enough surface area to hold it in place.
If you make your own backing plate make sure you round all of the edges so it won't tear out of the door post.
