Yes, those engines idle fairly slow. At least that's what the shop manual says. 450-500rpm.
If they are set too high it's difficult to get a smooth shift, even with double clutching. So that's a thing to consider when you start driving.
The choke also activates the throttle or you can use the the throtte pull cable the way you're doing. Whatever works!
