Adjust Bendix brakes by tightening the star wheel until you get a firm drag (not locked up) at each wheel and back off one turn of the adjuster. That's 10 clicks on a standard adjuster, or 20 on the fine tooth wheel used on self-adjusting brakes. Ignore any drag noises you might feel or hear after backing up the star wheel. The shoes will self-center every time you apply the brakes, but there's no way to guarantee there won't be a little scuff noise once you start backing up on the adjuster.
