A tachometer cannot react to a momentary over-rev situation and protect the engine like a governor is designed to do. If you insist on eliminating a safety feature the engineers who designed the truck thought was necessary, start tucking away some money to replace the blown engine that's bound to happen sooner or later- - - - -probably sooner.
