I did a little experiment today:

I disconnected the fuel line to the carb, so the fuel pump could expel into a gas can. Then I got a plastic pint bottle of gas that I use for engine 'first start' events, and connected it to the carb. No pump pressure, just gravity feed from the pint bottle.

I started the engine...and it still dribbles.
