A little grease on the pivot of the engine stand wouldn't hurt, but what Martin said is probably the safest way to get them turned over. And the correct way (similar to the picture) is to locate the pivot of the stand as high as possible in relation to the crankshaft. With it too low, once turned upside down, you may never be able to turn it back upright. At least without 3 men and a boy helping.
