Yes, I was thinking the RPM meter was grounding the coil. It could be the problem since it died or it died because connected to wrong coil terminal. I hope you are saying that when HT wire was tested that it was still IN THE COIL and the other distributor end was the one near metal to test for spark. It will be a miracle if points and condenser and coil are not screwed up. 600 miles hooked up bassackwards.
