We did it that way with vinyl decals on 1200 gallon tanks on trucks. Theses decals measured 9 feet X 4 feet. They had adhesive on them like one would expect, but could not possibly have been installed without lots of soapy water. We tried the first on dry. It soon became a huge ball of sticky vinyl which we of course spent the rest of the day throwing it at each other.
