If it was mine I wouldn't do anything with that paint except wash it up. From the pics it looks to be really decent and has a good shine to it yet. I'd get it running and drivable and just run it the way it is. Especially since it's a family heirloom you can say, "It's just the way Dad/Grandpa had it."
