I recall reading that a 216 engine redlined somewhere around 3,200 and a full pressure 235/261 redlined somewhere around 3,800-4,200, but can't seem to put my fingers on that documentation.
I never hesitate to put the gas pedal down hard on my 261 in traffic, but I highly doubt I have ever exceeded 3,000 rpms with it.
