OK I've had some over heating problems with a '78 350 SBC thats in my '46 Chevy Panel. It's not cammed up or anything wild. Timing is at 8 deg BTDC, 625 Road Demon running a little rich right now, headers, original radiator copper and brass, 17" 2700 CFM electric fan, fan comes on at 180. It's got AC but I have not run it with the AC on. It was holding about 195 deg for short/med around town runs. The first long run it got to 205/210 and I shut it down to cool off. I didn't need to hurt the motor. I had a 180 thermostat but dropped it to 160 after first over heat. Didn't help, really it over heated faster on a shorter run.
Now before I pull the radiator and have it checked and rodded I was told to ask what would considered the normal operating temp be for the motor. Thats what I need to know.
