The differential looks the same as the photos posted earlier in this thread. No chunks of metal, wear pattern on the gears looks normal. It'll get fresh juice back there so that's a good thing. While I was down there I spoke with Pop, he said he remembers the popping but was baffled by its sporadic nature. He said he doesn't think it's internal, like inside the rear or trans, but said to check over the engine mounts to the frame as he thinks it's torque related. I think I'll just replace those bolts.

And there is no telltale signs of cracks, loose rivets, movement, nothing on the frame.
