The engine and transmission have to come out together on a 61' 235 with the 4-spd manual -- then once out - I took the transmission off the bell housing. I had some difficulty getting the trans over the rear cross-member, and the top of the trans under the floor pan hump. I ended up manuvering the rear mounts off and out of the way and I removed the top of the trans. Once this was done, it came out straight away. The trans is heavy and awkward and the lower bolts are removed from inside the bell housing after you remove the lower inspection cover. Getting the nose of the truck out of the way is the easiest way to remove this engine/trans. I have other things to do, so I needed to remove it.
