When I put disk brakes on my 39, I went to a wrecking yard and pulled the hard parts off the same pickup that had disk front, shoes in the back. I bought a new M/C, new shoes (the all new front brakes were part of my heidts kit). I did not have any issues with it stopping even from 80-90 mph on the freeway.
